Nikon has released the longest lens for the Z mirrorless camera system. If you want a mini Nikon F5, you could get a Nikon F100 for a reasonnable price, but if you want the top of the line, the best of the best, then just get the F6. Nikon Announces the NIKKOR Z 800mm f6.3 VR S Lens Preorder More Info at B&H Photo. I would love the autofocus of the Nikon D5 on this F6, but there won't be a F7. It's one of those cameras you regret not buying sooner.Īfter trying more than over 250 cameras, this Nikon F6 feels like the end of the line, as it's one of the last film camera ever made, I also feel a little sad, knowing that it will probably won't get better than this. The first day I went shooting with it, I almost did 5 rolls with it, and it went by so fast I couln't beleive it.

The F6 even works with the remote flash CLS (Nikon Creative Lighting System), which brings full TTL remote flash groups controlled from where you are, behind the camera. It's much better made than the CSM (Custom Settings Menu) of the F5 or F100. The menu system, even on its tiny LCD screen, feels much like the menu system we know now with digital Nikons. The finder is great, ergonomy is excellent, and lens compatibility is just awesome. At close to a kilogram, it's still heavy, but much less than my so loved F5.

The Nikon F6 feels solid, it's the pinnacle of 35mm SLR cameras, taking all the good features of many cameras, into this nice little package. The Nikon F6 was announced at Photokina 2004, along with the digital Nikon D2X.As Thom Hogan observed at the time, the launch of a new pro SLR surprised a few people, but it really shouldn’t have Nikon delivered the F6 eight years after the F5, which was the standard interval between pro film bodies at that time. The F6 is great, and it makes me a little sad too. Well, what the heck, I just bought one anyway, I had to try it for myself. But, $1000 for a used one is still expensive, when you can get a F100 for much less. They were all saying things like, yeah this is the best camera ever, or wow, this camera really rocks.
